Jobs fair aims to reconnect displaced workers with foreign employers

The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will stage the Overseas Mega Jobs Fair on May 1, 2026, at Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas Center, Quezon City, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event, timed to the 124th Philippine Labor Day celebration, targets jobseekers and repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) displaced by the ongoing Middle East conflict. Twelve licensed recruitment agencies — four manning and eight land-based — will participate, collectively offering an estimated 3,400 vacancies. Destinations include the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Croatia, Slovakia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Guam, Papua New Guinea, and positions aboard international vessels. The fair carries the Labor Day theme: “Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas Sama-samang Mararating.”

Online pre-registration required for priority entry

Applicants are encouraged to pre-register online through the DMW job fair portal at jobfairportal.dmw.gov.ph before the event. Those with existing eRegistration accounts may log in directly, while new users must supply basic personal information, educational background, work experience, and a preferred job category. Repatriated OFWs affected by the 2026 Middle East crisis must select “YES” on the corresponding option during registration. Upon completion, a QR code is generated and serves as the job fair pass. Pre-registered applicants with QR codes will receive entry priority over walk-ins. Once inside, applicants have 20 minutes to submit their résumés and must scan their pass at a terminal scanner before exiting. Resume dropboxes will also be available on-site.

Financial aid for UAE-based OFWs affected by regional tensions

The DMW has also launched a one-time financial assistance of $200 (approximately Dh730) for land-based OFWs in the UAE whose employment has been disrupted by the crisis involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The programme supports workers who have lost jobs, experienced reduced working hours, or been placed on unpaid leave. Eligible workers must hold employment visas or Emirates IDs issued in Dubai or the Northern Emirates — specifically Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain. Those with visas from other emirates but actually working in the Northern Emirates may also qualify if they can provide proof of their actual workplace location. Workers who have already received financial assistance during repatriation or the crisis period are not eligible, the Migrant Workers Office in Dubai and the Northern Emirates (MWO Dubai) stated in an advisory.

Online applications open twice weekly with daily cap

Applications for the $200 aid must be submitted strictly online, with windows opening every Tuesday and Friday at 8am. Each window accepts around 820 applicants and closes at 11:59pm on the same day or once the daily limit is reached. The MWO Dubai has reiterated that applicants should not visit the office; all processing is online. Links to the application forms are posted on the official MWO Dubai website and Facebook page. The first application form opened on April 28 and received 822 submissions. 64% of applicants were female and 36% male. Skilled workers accounted for 98.4% of applications, while domestic workers made up 1.6%. 93.6% of applicants were based in Dubai, with 6.4% from other emirates.

Three-day processing and no follow-up needed

Applicants will receive the outcome of their application within three days from submission through their registered email address. The MWO Dubai has emphasised that there is no need to follow up. For those who have previously registered but cannot recall their login credentials for the jobs fair portal, they may retrieve their job fair pass by entering their email address and birthdate on the portal. The dual initiatives — the jobs fair and the financial aid — reflect the Philippine government's effort to address the immediate needs of OFWs caught in the crossfire of a volatile geopolitical situation.

The bottom line

  • The Overseas Mega Jobs Fair on May 1 offers 3,400 vacancies across 11 countries and international vessels, with priority for repatriated OFWs.
  • Pre-registration online is mandatory for priority entry; repatriated workers must indicate their crisis-affected status.
  • The $200 one-time aid is for land-based OFWs in Dubai and the Northern Emirates whose employment was disrupted by the US-Israel-Iran tensions.
  • Applications for the aid open every Tuesday and Friday, capped at 820 per window; 64% of first-round applicants were female.
  • Skilled workers made up 98.4% of aid applicants, and 93.6% were based in Dubai.
  • Outcomes for the financial aid are emailed within three days; no follow-up required.
