Photography Dispute Triggers Wedding Violence
A wedding celebration in Ujjain’s Rajiv Nagar area descended into chaos late on the night of the 27th after a photographer asked a woman to step out of a frame. What began as a brief argument between the bride’s and groom’s families quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Viral video footage shows guests hurling chairs, utensils, and other objects at one another, with kicks and punches exchanged. The baraat was present when the violence erupted, forcing the event to a halt. The families involved belong to the Ahirwar community.
Police Probe Viral Brawl as No Arrests Yet
Following the widespread circulation of the video on social media, the Chimanganj police station launched an investigation. Authorities are using the footage to identify participants, but no official confirmation of injuries or arrests has been made. The incident underscores how minor disagreements during celebratory events can spiral into major confrontations.
26 Minors Rescued from Antyodaya Express in Suspected Trafficking
On the same night, a large rescue operation unfolded at Ujjain railway station after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) received a tip that about 100 children were being transported from Muzaffarnagar to Ahmedabad for labour. Teams from four police stations, RPF, GRP, the labour department, and the women and child development department were alerted. When the Antyodaya Express arrived at Ujjain around 11 PM, officers began searching the train. Over half an hour, they questioned more than 50 children and accompanying adults, initially rescuing four minors. However, the train departed before the search could be completed.
Coordinated Halt at Nagda Leads to Full Rescue
CSP Deepika Shinde, leading the operation, immediately notified Nagda station to stop the train. A one-hour search there resulted in the rescue of 22 more minors, bringing the total to 26. All rescued children are minors, with two under 14 years old. They have been handed over to Ujjain GRP and will be housed at the CWC in Ujjain while authorities contact their families. Police suspect the children were being taken to Gujarat for labour, though some claim they were heading to Somnath and other places for sightseeing. The labour department’s assistant commissioner Rakhi Joshi stated that four individuals were reportedly escorting over 100 minors. Investigations are ongoing to determine the purpose and perpetrators.
Summer Special Trains to Serve Ujjain and Ratlam
To manage the summer vacation rush, Indian Railways has announced two one-way special trains. Train number 09607 Madar-Madgaon special will depart Madar on May 3 at 19:55 and arrive in Madgaon on May 5 at 04:40. The route includes major stations such as Bhopal, Jhansi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Dhanbad.
Wider Context: Similar Rescue in Katni
The Ujjain rescue comes amid a broader crackdown on child trafficking. On Saturday night, 165 Muslim children were rescued from the Patna-Pune Express at Katni railway station in Madhya Pradesh. They were being transported from Bihar to Maharashtra under suspicious circumstances. Police registered a case against eight individuals, including Saddam Hussain and Amanullah, under Section 143 of the BNS (child trafficking). Of those rescued, 84 were sent to a children’s home in Jabalpur and 81 to a home in Katni.
Ujjain’s Week of Contrasts: Celebration and Crisis
The same city that witnessed a wedding brawl also became the site of a successful anti-trafficking operation, while railways prepare to ease summer travel. These events highlight the coexistence of everyday festivities and serious social challenges in Ujjain. The police response in both cases—swift investigation of the brawl and coordinated multi-agency rescue—reflects a growing institutional readiness to address public order and child protection issues, though questions remain about the effectiveness of prevention.
The bottom line
- A wedding in Ujjain turned violent after a photographer’s request sparked a family brawl; police are investigating.
- 26 minors were rescued from the Antyodaya Express in a suspected labour trafficking operation; two are under 14.
- The rescue was led by CSP Deepika Shinde and involved multiple agencies; four individuals are under scrutiny.
