Results Expected in Third Week of May

The Central Board of Secondary Education is expected to announce Class 12 results in the third week of May 2026, bringing relief to nearly 18 lakh students who appeared for the exams. Sanyam Bhardwaj, a senior board official, confirmed that the evaluation process is in its final stage and dismissed rumours about any technical delays, calling such claims misleading. The board will not announce the date and time of results beforehand, nor will it hold a press conference. Instead, pass percentages, gender-wise details, and state-wise performance will be published on the official website.

Top Scorers: 95% Rise in Eight Years

Data from 2018 to 2025 reveals a steady increase in high scorers. In 2018, 12,737 students scored above 95%, while by 2025 that number reached 24,867 — a rise of approximately 95%. Similarly, students scoring above 90% grew from 72,569 in 2018 to over 94,000 in 2019, peaking during the pandemic. However, the increase in top scorers is largely linked to the growing number of candidates, which expanded from around 11 lakh in 2018 to 16,92,794 in 2025. This suggests no disproportionate surge in high marks.

Pass Percentage: Gradual Improvement Over a Decade

The overall pass percentage has risen from 83.01% in 2018 to 88.39% in 2025, an increase of over 5 percentage points. The pandemic year 2021 recorded an exceptional spike, with a pass rate of 99.37% and 70,004 students scoring above 95%, due to alternative assessment methods. Following the pandemic, results moderated. In 2022, the pass percentage declined to 92.71%, with 33,432 students above 95%. By 2023, it dropped further to 87.33%, before stabilising at 87.98% in 2024 and 88.39% in 2025.

How to Check Results: Official Portals and Digital Access

Students can access their results on the official CBSE website at cbse.nic.in or via the results portal at results.cbse.nic.in. Other platforms include cbse.gov.in, cbseresults.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, and results.gov.in. Mobile apps DigiLocker and UMANG will also provide digital marksheets. To view scores, students need their roll number, school number, admit card ID, and date of birth. The online marksheet is provisional; original certificates will be issued later by schools. However, digital copies are valid for college admissions and official purposes where accepted.

Passing Criteria and Exam Details

CBSE has maintained its standard passing rules: students must secure at least 33% marks in each subject, including both theory and internal assessments. This translates to a minimum of 27 marks in theory papers and at least 7 out of 20 in internal assessments. The Class 12 board examination commenced on February 17 and concluded on April 10, 2026, held in a single shift from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm. As per past trends, the board will not announce results beforehand.

Wider Context: North-South Performance Gap and Long-Term Trends

The steady rise in pass percentage and top scorers masks regional disparities. Over the years, a persistent gap has emerged between northern and southern states in pass percentages, though specific data for 2026 is not yet available. The trend analysis from 2018 to 2025 shows that while overall performance improves, regional variations remain a concern. As the board prepares to release results, the focus shifts to how the 2026 cohort will compare with the pandemic-affected years and whether the normalisation trend continues.

  • CBSE Class 12 results are expected in the third week of May 2026; no prior announcement will be made.
  • Number of students scoring above 95% has increased 95% from 2018 to 2025, in line with candidate growth.
  • Overall pass percentage rose from 83.01% (2018) to 88.39% (2025), a 5 percentage point increase.
  • Pandemic year 2021 saw anomalous highs due to alternative assessments; results have since normalised.
